What it does not do
- Gafferly does not decide the code for you. Deciding whether an observation is C1, C2, C3 or FI is the inspector's professional judgement and no software should be making that call.
- It does not notify a competent person scheme or handle Part P notification.
- It does not ship EIC or Minor Works certificates as separate built-in documents. Those you would build in the form builder.

Common questions
What do the EICR codes mean?
C1 means danger present, with a risk of injury, and requires immediate action. C2 means potentially dangerous, and requires urgent remedial action. C3 means improvement recommended. FI means further investigation. Note that BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 changed the outcome logic: only C1 and C2 now make a report Unsatisfactory, and C3 and FI no longer do. FI also softened in wording, from further investigation required without delay to further investigation advised. Plenty of guidance published before 2026 still says an FI makes a report unsatisfactory, and that is now out of date. The judgement on which code applies is the inspector's, and Gafferly records it rather than deciding it.
How often is an EICR needed on a rented property?
For privately rented homes in England, the Electrical Safety Standards in the Private Rented Sector (England) Regulations 2020 require an inspection at least every five years, with a copy to the tenant within 28 days and to the local authority within seven days if requested. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have their own regimes, so check the position for where you work rather than assuming England's rules apply.
