Competence is per engineer, per appliance, and it expires. A Gas Safe ID card carries categories on the back, each with its own expiry date, so the nearest van is not always the van that is allowed to do the job. No other trade on this site has a scheduling constraint that sits inside the engineer's wallet.

How the work arrives
Three streams. Fixed-date compliance rounds, meaning CP12s for landlords, agents and housing providers plus commercial CP17s and CP42s. Reactive callouts, meaning breakdowns and unsafe situations. And installation work. The compliance round is the one with legal deadlines attached, so it wins every time there is a clash.
How the year runs
Two calendars running at once and colliding. Breakdowns peak from the first cold snap to February. CP12 renewals fall on the anniversary of whenever the property was last done, which is spread across the whole year and takes no notice of how busy you are.
Where Gafferly stops, for this trade
Better to know now than in week three of the trial.
- Gafferly does not check Gas Safe registration or appliance categories, and will not stop you assigning a job to an engineer whose category has expired. It is a diary, not a competence register.
- It does not submit RIDDOR reports.
- CP42 and CP17 are not built-in documents. CP12 is. The others you build yourself.
