These two are the closest like-for-like on this site: both UK-built, both per-user, both around £29 a month to start. The real difference is VAT. Powered Now's pricing page states VAT is excluded, so its £28 is £33.60 out of your bank, against £29 for Gafferly, which adds none. If your firm is VAT registered you reclaim it and that advantage vanishes, at which point Powered Now is slightly cheaper and has a no-card trial.

Where Powered Now is the better buy
Cheaper on list price, and cheaper full stop if you are VAT registered
£28 against £29 at entry level. Small, but real, and if you reclaim VAT then £28 is what it costs you.
You can try it without handing over a card
Powered Now's trial needs no card details. Gafferly's does, which is a genuine friction point and a fair reason to start with them instead.
A longer track record
Powered Now has been serving UK trades for considerably longer than Gafferly has existed. If a long operating history is what you weigh most heavily, that is a reasonable call and not one we can argue with.
Where Gafferly is the better buy
No VAT on top
The single clearest difference. Powered Now states pricing is VAT excluded, so £28 becomes £33.60. Gafferly adds nothing, so £29 is £29. For a firm below the VAT threshold that is about £56 a year per seat. It is also temporary: if Gafferly crosses the registration threshold, VAT gets added like everyone else.
Certificates named rather than implied
Powered Now advertises industry-specific certificates without naming CP12 or EICR anywhere we could find. Gafferly names both and ships them. If certificates are central to your work, ask them directly before you commit.
Payments to your own Stripe account
Powered Now routes card payments through SumUp. Gafferly connects your own Stripe account, so the money goes to your bank and the relationship is yours.
