Best for a sole trader watching every pound
ServiceM8 publishes a free plan covering one user and 30 jobs a month, which costs nothing at all. For a one-van firm testing whether software helps, that beats any trial. Past 30 jobs it moves to £25 a month, still the cheapest paid entry point here.
Runner-up: Powered Now at £28 per user, though VAT is added on top.

Best for a team that keeps growing
ServiceM8's limit is jobs per month, not seats, so office staff, apprentices and a bookkeeper cost nothing extra. Every per-user product on this page gets more expensive with each person you add. At ten users the gap is roughly £119 against £290 for Gafferly.
Runner-up: YourTradebase, at £29 plus £15 per extra seat, stays cheaper than any pure per-user product.

Best certificate coverage
Tradify's own feature pages list EICR, EIC, Minor Works, Danger Notice, PAT, emergency lighting, fire alarm, solar PV and EV charger certificates, alongside more than ten gas forms. Nothing else here comes close. If you are a fire and security firm, a solar installer or an EV charge point installer, this is the one.

Best for a firm doing both gas and electrical work
Gafferly ships CP12 and EICR at £29 per user with no VAT added. If you only do gas, Gas Engineer Software is cheaper at £19 per user plus VAT, but its published certificate list is gas and oil only, with nothing electrical. Tradify covers both and a great deal more, at £34. So this category is narrow on purpose: it is for the firm that issues both a CP12 and an EICR and does not need the wider library.
Runner-up: Gas Engineer Software if your work is gas only, or Tradify if you need certificates beyond those two.

Best free trial
Thirty days and no card required. Gafferly also gives thirty days but asks for a card up front, which is real friction and a fair reason to start elsewhere. Powered Now asks for no card but gives you only fourteen days.
Runner-up: Gafferly, also thirty days, but a card is required to start.

Best if your business is not VAT registered
Powered Now and YourTradebase both state that VAT is added on top of their listed prices. Gafferly adds none, because Gafferly Group Ltd is not currently VAT registered, so £29 is £29 rather than £34.80. This matters only if you cannot reclaim VAT, and it stops being true if Gafferly crosses the registration threshold.

Best for a larger, process-heavy operation
Once you are past about fifteen people with planned maintenance contracts and subcontractors, the products built for small firms start to strain. Joblogic publishes an entry tier at £45 per user. Go in with your eyes open on commitment: Joblogic states most of its customers commit to 24 or 36 months, and Commusoft, which serves a similar market, publishes no prices at all.
Runner-up: Commusoft, which states it is designed for businesses with six or more staff.
